What format do I get?

You get a transparent-background PNG. PNG preserves the alpha channel that holds the transparency information. JPG does not support transparency, so the export is always PNG.

PixlFits Background Remover is a truly free, unlimited, watermark-free alternative to other online background removers. It uses the open-source U²-Net family of AI models running directly in your browser via WebAssembly. Your image never gets uploaded to any server.

How it works

On your first visit, your browser downloads the AI model file (about 80 MB) and caches it.
The model is loaded into a WebAssembly runtime and runs on your CPU (or GPU if available).
Your image is processed locally — open the Network tab in DevTools to verify nothing is sent.

For most photos (people, products, animals, clearly-defined subjects), quality is comparable. Some commercial services have a slight edge on fine details like hair strands or transparent objects (e.g. glass). For 80% of use cases, PixlFits is indistinguishable.

Is there a file size limit?

The model handles images up to roughly 4096 × 4096 pixels. Very large images may run out of browser memory — resize them first using the PixlFits Resizer.

Can I use the result commercially?

Yes — PixlFits doesn't claim any rights to your output. The rights you have to the original image transfer to the background-removed version. PixlFits Background Remover is free for personal and commercial use.
