Browser HEIC support: HEIC conversion uses your browser's native image decoder. Chrome 104+, Safari 17+, and Edge 104+ support HEIC natively. If conversion fails, try a different browser or use our converter with a pre-converted file.

What is a HEIC file?

HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format used by iPhones and iPads running iOS 11 and later. It uses the HEIF (High Efficiency Image Format) standard and typically produces images 40–50% smaller than JPEGs at the same visual quality — which is why Apple adopted it to save storage space.

The problem: HEIC isn't supported by all apps, websites, and platforms. Windows, older Android devices, many social networks, and design tools either don't support HEIC at all, or require a codec to be installed. Converting to JPG ensures your photos open everywhere.

Why no upload? Most HEIC converters online upload your photos to a server — which means a company you don't know has a copy of your personal iPhone photos. PixlFits converts HEIC files entirely inside your browser. Nothing is uploaded. Your photos stay on your device.

How to convert HEIC to JPG on any device

On any computer (Chrome, Edge, Safari): Use PixlFits. Drop your .heic files, select JPG, download. Works on Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook.

On iPhone: In the Photos app, tap Share → Save to Files → the file saves as JPG automatically when you choose a non-HEIC destination. Or email it to yourself — it arrives as JPG.

On Mac: Open in Preview → File → Export → choose JPEG. Or use PixlFits in Safari for batch conversion.

Does converting HEIC to JPG reduce quality?

At 85–92% quality, the visual difference between HEIC and JPG is invisible to the human eye. The converted JPG file will be larger than the HEIC (because HEIC's compression is more efficient), but equally sharp. Use the quality slider in PixlFits to control the trade-off between file size and quality.

Frequently asked questions

Why can't I open HEIC files on Windows?
Windows doesn't natively support HEIC. You need to install the HEIC codec from the Microsoft Store (free), or convert your HEIC files to JPG using PixlFits. Converting to JPG is the most reliable solution — JPG opens on every version of Windows without any extra software.
How do I stop my iPhone from shooting in HEIC?
Go to Settings → Camera → Formats → select "Most Compatible." This switches iPhone's camera to shoot JPG by default. Your existing HEIC photos aren't changed, but all new photos will be JPG.
Can I convert multiple HEIC files at once?
Yes. Drop multiple .heic files at once (or click Browse and select several). PixlFits converts all files and packages them in a single ZIP download.
What is the difference between HEIC and HEIF?
HEIF (High Efficiency Image Format) is the format specification. HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is a container that holds HEIF images — it's the actual file extension Apple uses. For all practical purposes they're the same thing. Both .heic and .heif files are supported by PixlFits.
Does PixlFits keep my HEIC photos after converting?
No. PixlFits never sees your photos. Conversion happens entirely inside your browser tab using the HTML5 Canvas API. No data is sent to any server. When you close the tab, everything is gone.
